Anglesey Beaches Blue Flag Awards

Anglesey beaches have done it again! They have won the highly prestigious European Blue Flag award, repeating last years success.

Visitors to the island can have confidence that the winning beaches comply with the highest standards as set out in European Law. Not surprisingly the local council is proud of this achievement for the island.

Cllr John Williams, with cabinet responsiblity for the environment, said: "we only have to look at the number of people visiting them each year to see how important they are to the tourism industry."

He added that "our five [winning] beaches have received the recognition they deserve as being amongst the finest beaches in Wales".

And to emphasise how much effort has gone into getting our scenic, sandy beaches up to the exacting European standards, Anglesey's Chief Environmental Officer, Tony Burgess, said:

"On Anglesey, a great deal of hard work has gone into maintaining the already high standards at our five winning beaches" He said these awards [represented] the Isle of Anglesey County Council's continued commitment to a safe and tidy coast."

And the five winning beaches are:

Trearddur Bay
Porth Dafarch
Llanddwyn
Llanddona
Benllech
