RWE Wylfa Investment Decision After 2011

RWE AG, the German utility which along with E.ON AG won land near Wylfa on Anglesey for new nuclear build, may not make a final decision to invest until after 2011.

At a nuclear energy conference in Paris on Monday 29 June 2009, vice President of RWE Power Nuclear Division, Hartmut Pamme said the company does not foresee a final investment decision being made before 2011, according to Dow Jones.

It seems the final decision on building a new generation of new nuclear power plants in Britain may not even be in 2012 and could be "even later".

Recently RWE NPower held a consultation process on the island with local stakeholders, setting out potential plans for a new reactor at the Wylfa site outside Cemaes.

The existing power station, Wylfa A, has had its
operating life extended to the end of 2010
, and there is a possibility that extension could go up to 2014, depending on the decision made by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
