Dolphins In Holyhead Bay

by Gary
(UK)

Actually we were not on the Anglesey Coastal Path but out at sea.

We spend most weekends out off Holyhead weather permitting, in our boat around the island.

We nearly always see at least one dolphin, especially off Church Bay and always off South Stack.

The best we have seen was about eight dolphins all together
swimming from Bolivar's buoy towards Carmel Head.

They where very friendly, playin in front of the boat, while we followed.

A lovely experience!

Dolphin Hot Spots on Anglesey
by: Keith

I live in Rhydwyn, nr Church Bay on Ynys Mon, and I am a keen sailor / walker and retired teacher.

I have combed the north coast of Anglesey over recent months looking for a 'hot spot' where dolphins are supposed to come close inshore.

This was featured a year or two back by Iolo on S4C. Anyone give me directions ... ?

And I recently completed a survey of the North Sea with ORCA on board the Newcastle
to Stavanger ferry.

I took the place of one of the four observers who had to drop out at the last minute.

I am interested in helping out with cetacean watches in the neighbourhood and would like to learn more.

I have excellent optical kit of my own. The Anglesey Today Newsletter would also be welcome.
