Llangoed Show 2008, Flowers and Vegetables

The Llangoed Flower and Vegetable Show was held in the Village Hall on Saturday, 6th September.

In spite of the dreadful Anglesey weather in the weeks leading up to the show and on the day itself, it was very well supported and a great success.

The number of entries was 25% up on last year's and the standard of exhibits in all sections was exceptional.

Once again, the ages of exhibitors ranged from 4 to 80+ and, for the first time, there were entries from Gerddi Haulfre and from the Blaen y Coed Resource Centre.

This was a welcome development, which we hope will continue in future years.

We were also delighted to welcome a group of residents from the Haulfre Retirement Home, some of whom had also exhibited.

In the junior section, the art work, cookery and animals made from vegetables were a delight and added colour and interest to the show.

The only problem we now face is that, if entries continue to grow at the present rate, we will be short of room to fit everything in!

As well as the displays, there were two successful raffles, without which the Show could not carry on, and refreshments were served throughout the afternoon.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped in so many ways to make the show a success, especially those who gave donations and raffle prizes, and local shops which advertised the show.

We depend entirely on volunteers and would welcome anyone from the community who would like to join us.

The winners of the major trophies were Gerddi Haulfre, E.W.Hughes, A. Sutton G. Oakes, J. Williams, M. Suddaby and C. Pritchard.

The date of next year's Llangoed Show will be announced in the near future.
