Local businessman Shuaib Shah, owner of Mr Veg greengrocers in Benllech on Anglesey, and now of recently opened stores in Amlwch and Holyhead, is encouraging a healthy eating theme amongst local schoolchildren.

Forward thinking and community focused Shuaib in conjunction with a number of the local island primary schools, organised a competition to design posters for his window displays over the Christmas holidays.

Nine W H Smith vouchers were handed out as prizes to the 3 different age groups in each of the participating schools.

Says Shuaib: "Ysgol Goronwy Owen in Benllech implemented a healthy eating campaign a considerable time ago and have fruit available to purchase at break time for a nominal amount.

The competition helps to extend the children's thinking on healthy eating over the Christmas period.

And from the visits we have had from children at the school, they are already working at formulating some original ideas for the poster competition."

Shuaib likes to source locally farmed produce for his shops whenever possible, and is always looking for new avenues to explore.

Says Shuaib: " I would like to thank all my customers for their support. I have a very loyal customer base and have a number of new local suppliers in the pipeline, which will give my customers greater choice and access to more organically grown fruit and vegetables over the next few months."

Mr Veg can be found opposite the HSBC bank in Benllech, and offers a selection of fruit and vegetables as well as local fresh bread, milk and eggs (including duck and free range). A home delivery service is also available on request.
