Is Wylfa a RWE NPower Target?

With the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) land sale under way, is RWE NPower about to swoop on Wylfa, the nuclear site on Anglesey?

This week the NDA, which owns 19 nuclear sites in the UK, starts the process which sees energy giants ready to invest in building a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain.

The NDA land is adjacent to existing nuclear plants at Wylfa, Oldbury in Gloucestershire and Bradwell in Essex.

These sites are considered to be among the best for nuclear new build, and the likelihood is that Wylfa would be in the second tranche of projects.

This all takes place against a background of the takeover of British Energy Group (BE) by the French power giant, EDF, which plans to build new reactors on the BE sites.

While RWE NPower has been mentioned as being keen on Wylfa, other international energy companies have also expressed an interst.

These include Iberdrola, GDF Suez, and EON. So we will have to watch developments with great interest.
