Issue #001, 15 June 2007
Welcome to the first issue of our Newsletter. We have been planning for some time to launch this latest way of sharing interesting articles and news about Anglesey with the rest of the world. And there is so much that's happening on the island right now, so we hope to give you a little flavour of what is in store for future issues. We have introduced some video footage to the site and we hope you will enjoy some of the clips here. This is developing into something bigger, and we will share more with you in forthcoming issues. You are welcome to leave any comments or ask questions about what you read by contacting us here. So, let's get started with the news and articles for the first edition..... 1) What was that about Ghosts in a Hospital?
Some strange stories have been coming out of the local hospital, called Ysbyty Gwynedd, so we sent one of our ghostbuster writers to investigate and take notes......
2) From Kyrgyzstan to North Wales: Reflections
It was a pleasant opportunity for this young Kyrgyz journalist to experience the coastal views and beaches of North Wales. Irina Khaldarova, here in Wales as part of the British Council Democracy project, was following the recent Welsh Assembly Elections in May.
3) Irish Ferry Ulysses, Colossus of the Irish Sea
Irish Ferries Cruise ferry, Ulysses, is the largest of its kind in Western Europe. She crosses the Irish Sea between Holyhead and Dublin twice daily, taking just under 3.25 hours for the 60 mile passage.
4) A New Coat for Oldest Working Windmill in Wales
Llynnon Mill is remarkable, being the last working windmill in Wales. Built in 1776 and damaged in a severe storm, it has now been fully restored and is in working order again. Visit and buy stone ground flower. Watch video of workmen painting the structure before a visit by HRH Prince of Wales in June 2007.
5) Britannia, Arterial Link to Paradise Island of Anglesey
The Britannia Bridge is a vital road and rail link between Anglesey and the mainland. Robert Stephenson was the visionary and engineer repsonsible for this amazing feat of 19th century engineering. Read how disaster struck and watch a video clip of the bridge today.
6) An Anglesey Artist, Crys Pearce, on Art and Diversity
Crys Pearce, originally from Holyhead has recently opened a studio in Menai Bridge. She uses colour in her works to communicate the diversity and richness of life, both in the landscapes of her native Anglesey and more globally. Crys also offers taylor-made courses in art and art theory.
7) Experience the spontaneous Wildlife of Anglesey
Learn more about the diversity and richness of wildlife habitats on this island. The North Wales Wildlife Trust hold regular events with expert speakers and guides.
8) Anglesey Airport has Lift-Off, Fly to Cardiff and further .....
The new Anglesey cardiff air link has taken-off, with twice daily flights now available. Watch the Highland Airways plane arrive from Cardiff. Book early to get good discounts. New destinations are possible and more are likely to follow. Fancy Malaga and Murcia? Golf at La Manga, Cultural Tours in Murcia are just a few of the possibilities.
