There would be significant advantages from focusing on geo-tourism and such status would bring the possibility of additional funding for anticipated sustainable economic development. This week a panel of international assessors are visiting Anglesey to consider the Geopark application. They will visit sites of particular geological interest including Holyhead Breakwater Park, Parys Copper Mountain near Amlwch, Llanddwyn and South Stack. The Holyhead lifeboat Duke of Northumberland's crew braved huge seas and gale force winds to bring the Harold's crew to safety, and for this act the crew were awarded 11 gallantry medals. Holyhead Lifeboat Coxswain Brian Thomson, proud of this huge achievement, said the Duke of Northumberland was at serious risk of being carried into the SS Harold during the difficult rescue.
