The world's first six-legged octopus was recently found in a lobster pot off the Anglesey coast.

The hexapus was inspected by Anglesey Sea Zoo staff who first noticed that it had only 6 legs.

Expert opinion suggests this unique specimen is due to an abnormality at birth rather than an accident.

Henry, as the hexapus is now called, has been taken to Blackpool Sea Life Centre. He will remain in a cold water display tank and soon be part of a new exhibition with normal octopus.

The isle of Anglesey is looking to become an International Geopark, a status granted by UNESCO and the European Geoparks Network.

The benefit of such status to the island would be its promotion as a territory containing outstanding geological heritage, with the potential to allow sustainable economic development.

There would be significant advantages from focusing on geo-tourism and such status would bring the possibility of additional funding for anticipated sustainable economic development.

This week a panel of international assessors are visiting Anglesey to consider the Geopark application. They will visit sites of particular geological interest including Holyhead Breakwater Park, Parys Copper Mountain near Amlwch, Llanddwyn and South Stack.

The island's application was submitted by GeoMon, a partnership representing local and environmental stakeholders.

The present crew of the Holyhead RNLI recently commemorated the 100th anniversary of their predecessors courageous act of rescuing the stricken Liverpool steamer SS Harold in 1908.

The Holyhead lifeboat Duke of Northumberland's crew braved huge seas and gale force winds to bring the Harold's crew to safety, and for this act the crew were awarded 11 gallantry medals.
